Deloitte State of the State Report 2024 – Addressing the Challenges

April 11 2024

The Chief Executives’ Forum is delighted to join with the Northern Ireland Public Sector Chairs’ Forum for a lunchtime briefing session with Deloitte on its 2024 State of the State research.

The State of the State, now in its twelfth year, brings together an exclusive survey from Ipsos MORI with qualitative research to explore the key issues facing the UK government, Northern Ireland Executive and public services.

In Northern Ireland, Deloitte interviewed over 30 senior figures from across the public, private and voluntary sectors and have distilled down their thoughts on some of the key issues facing our public sector, including the stability of devolved government, budgetary issues, climate change, demand pressures and the outlook for public sector reform: J31754_StateOfTheState_SOTS_NIreland_Report_Interactive_sg10 (deloitte.com)

At this event, we will hear from Marie Doyle, Partner at Deloitte; Alasdair Kilpatrick, Director at Deloitte and Sir Malcolm McKibbin, Associate at Deloitte who will provide an overview and analysis of this year’s findings.

Participants will then have the opportunity to collectively work through some of the challenges from the research to help inform a positive way forward for public service delivery. In particular, we will focus on:

1. Mainstreaming digital transformation
2. Structures and ingredients for achieving net zero
3. Key success factors in achieving delivery of transformation and innovation (and lessons learned)
4. Changing the dial on partnership working between public, private and third sectors
5. Improving trust and accountability in government / public service delivery
6. The future of work, the workplace and the workforce – challenges and opportunities

Following the event, Deloitte will publish a short paper on the discussion themes for the above topics and we will share with all attendees.
