'Thanksgiving Day at Parliament Buildings'

November 25 2010

Celebrating Northern Ireland's relationship with the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) and, more generally with the United States and its public service institutions, this Thanksgiving Day Reception was organised by the FEI Alumni Association in association with the Forum. The event was hosted by the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, William Hay MLA.

The Reception was addressed by the Speaker and The Honorable Kamala Lakhdhir, the United States Consul General who reflected on the bonds that link Northern Ireland with the USA, as evidenced by the recent establishment of the All Party Group. The Group acts to strengthen and co-ordinate links between Members of the Assembly and their counterparts in the US Houses of Congress while the FEI Alumni Association acknowledges the almost 30-year relationship that the Northern Ireland public services have enjoyed with FEI. Based in Charlottesville Virginia, the Institute is dedicated to developing career leaders for the US Government. The Institute facilitates a number of public servants from here each year to attend its highly prestigious 'Leadership for a Democratic Society' programme. Designed mainly for senior officials in the US Administration, the Institute has for several decades opened its doors and this particular programme to government officials from Northern Ireland.
