Managing Complexity: More Effective Communication and Improved Efficiency

May 17 2013

The demands of today's Public Service call for a new kind of thinking, one that focuses less on the creation of ideas and more on their testing. This means breaking old habits and building new ones that foster critical thinking, based on sound preparation and smarter working.

When complexity is high; the stakes are significant and time is often limited. In this breakfast briefing, you will hear from practitioners of Precision Questioning + Answering; a technique used by a growing number of leaders across a variety of business sectors for mitigating complexity, which involves highly targeted questions and answers as the centerpiece of effective leadership.

By the end of the briefing you will become aware of skills that enable you to:

  • Set and uphold high standards for thinking as a core aspect of leadership
  • Strengthen your powers of analysis through tightly aligned question and answer interactions

The briefing will be delivered by Patricia Connolly and Michelle McMahon.

Patricia is a Consultant at the HSC Leadership Centre. She specialises in leadership and management development and is the N.I. Regional Link for the HSC Graduate Training Schemes. Patricia has a PhD in Organisational Communication and previously worked as a Lecturer and Course Director in Health Communication at the University of Ulster.

Michelle specialises in developing core talent and executive level employees. She is a fully certified Precision Questioning and Answering™ instructor and has taught the workshop to many organisations across multiple business sectors. She holds an MSc in Work and Organisational Behaviour and is registered with the British and European Psychological Society.
