The Public Sector as a Catalyst for Innovation?

October 02 2013

Public Sector Procurement is a key component in rebalencing our ecomomy, especially at a time of constrained spend. This seminar, hosted jointly with the Institute of Directors and in conjunction with ilex, the Derry/Londonderry urban regeneration company, will outline how the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) aims to accelerate economic growth by:

stimulating the development of new innovative, cost effective solutions;
supporting the growth of the private sector economy;
incentivising new suppliers (especially small companies) to enter the market; and
enabling the Public sector to become a more informed procurer.
The good news is that Northern Ireland is well placed to take advantage of the SBRI to drive innovation in both our public services and our business base.

At the end of the briefing you will have gained an appreciation of this innovative form of pre-procurement from the perspective of businesses, public policy makers and practitioners. The briefing team will also be available after the event to discuss practical ways of getting involved.

The briefing, which is free and includes breakfast, will be delivered by:

Eoin McFadden, Innovation Procurement Executive, Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment: Eoin has worked with the UK's SBRI team for five years and has been involved both in running SBRI projects and in establishing the NI policy framework.

Alan McVicker, Strategic Investment Board: Alan is the project manager of a major SBRI Project currently underway to develop sustainable solutions to the utilisation of poultry litter.

Julie McNeice founder and CEO of local digital tourism company MyTourTalk which was successful in Northern Ireland's first SBRI competition and has realised significant benefits for the company in helping it to expand into new markets.

Breakfast will be available from 9am, with the briefing scheduled to start at 9.30am.
