Background
In January 2014 the Chief Executives' Forum (CEF) together with the Chairs' Forum hosted a presentation of a project funded by the British Academy and a University of Aberdeen Knowledge Exchange and Transfer Fund which examined public sector corporate governance across a range of organisational types in GB. In view of comments expressed at the seminar CEF, in conjunction with the Chairs' Forum and CIPFA NI, has commissioned the Ulster Business School to investigate how governance is practised locally by the Boards of public bodies in Northern Ireland. The work will investigate, in particular, an aspect of corporate governance that is often overlooked - the behavioural and cultural contexts that make governance structures work effectively.
Invitation to participate in and shape this work
The project aims to help establish best practice guidance for Board Members, Chief Executives and Audit professionals and ultimately, to support the delivery of better public services. You are invited to attend this breakfast briefing during which the approach to be used for the project will be explained. The briefing is aimed to test the proposed approach among an audience of public sector leaders and to provide an opportunity to influence the final shape of the project. Representatives from the Ulster Business School will join with panellists from CEF, the Chairs' Forum and from CIPFA NI who will outline the benefits they expect from the project; listen to your views; respond to your comments; and importantly, encourage your participation.
The project will be conducted over two main stages, reporting in September 2015 and the launch event is open to all Non Executive and Executive Board Members. Your input is critical to elicit what works well and perhaps not so well, in the corporate governance of public bodies here.
A light breakfast will be available from 8:00am with the event commencing promptly at 8:30am.
There is no fee payable for this event.
