Enhancing the effectiveness of corporate governance of public bodies in the NI public sector: Research Project Update

April 01 2015

In September 2014, the Forum, in partnership with the Chairs' Forum, CIPFA NI and the Ulster University Business School, launched a research project to investigate how governance is practised locally by the boards of public bodies in Northern Ireland.

The research is currently being carried out in two stages, concluding in September 2015. Phase One, which is now complete, was a questionnaire based scoping exercise to evaluate key corporate governance effectiveness issues of topical importance to board members of public bodies in Northern Ireland. Phase Two will involve conducting a number of semi-structured interviews investigating the detailed aspects of public bodies' corporate governance arrangements.

You are invited to attend this breakfast briefing during which the emerging findings from Phase One will be explained. Thereafter, your input and cooperation will be sought to help elicit feedback on observations evidenced to date. The purpose of this research project is clear - it aims to establish best practice guidance for Board Members, Chief Executives and Audit professionals and ultimately, to support the delivery of better public services.

Representatives from the Ulster University Business School will join with panellists from the Chairs' Forum and from CIPFA to listen to your views, respond to your comments and most importantly, encourage your participation. An Executive Summary of findings from stage one of the project will be available prior to the event.

There is no fee payable for this event. Breakfast will be available at the start of the session.
