2016-17 has been a dramatic year for those leading public services in Northern Ireland. Political developments locally, in Ireland, the UK, Europe and further afield affected and continue to have an impact on how services are planned and delivered. Such times of uncertainty points to the need for collaboration and mutual support amongst senior officials as we seek to fulfil competing demands within the population we serve. The Forum remains committed to playing its part to assist members make the connections and share experience.
This year we have altered the Annual Lunch format by inviting two speakers to engage with us. Former Secretary-General of the Department of Education and Skills in the Republic of Ireland, Brigid McManus, will outline her experience of leading a public service during Ireland’s “economic crisis”. Brigid will also comment specifically on the importance of leadership to ensure organisational cultures that promote gender equality.
Our second speaker is better known to local audiences. Former Councillor, Ian James Parsley, is recognised as one of Northern Ireland’s foremost public policy analysts. Ian will offer his thoughts on the expectations politicians place with senior public servants.
Please note:Guests are invited to arrive at 12.00pm and lunch will be served at 12.30pm. A short AGM is scheduled to follow at 2.00pm. The AGM is limited to Forum full members or their nominees.
