CEF is delighted to join with Sport NI to welcome three of our elite sportswomen from the Northern Ireland Women’s Football Team and the Northern Ireland Warriors Netball Team for our final pre-summer webinar.
This event will provide a perspective and insight into the skills and competences of high performance athletes and teams, and how public sector leaders can draw on those skills as we endeavor to deliver excellent public services.
At this event, we’ll hear from Julie Nelson of the NI Women’s Football Team and Fionnuala Toner and Michelle Magee from NI Warriors Netball Team about

• Resilience in sport
The Northern Ireland Women’s Football Team has just made history by qualifying for its first ever major tournament, the 2022 European Championships. The achievement follows a 17-year journey for the Northern Ireland Women’s team who only formed in 2004. Qualification for one of the top women’s soccer tournaments in the world will see them compete against the best sides and will undoubtedly inspire many young girls to play football.
The NI Warriors Netball Team are preparing for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022, with the qualification period open until January 2022 this is an important period for the team. The Commonwealth Games is a 12 team tournament against the best netball nations in the world, previous Games experience for NI Warriors resulted in credible performances of 7th in Glasgow 2014 (their debut games) and 8th in the Gold Coast, Australia 2018. The team also finished 10th at the most recent World Championships in Liverpool 2019.
