Board Effectiveness - NIAO Good Practice Guide Launch

June 22 2022

CEF and the NI Public Sector Chairs’ Forum are delighted to host the launch of the Northern Ireland Audit Office’s updated good practice guide on Board Effectiveness.

This guide reflects the move to a much greater level of partnership working and collaboration across government and its arms-length bodies, all of which are embodied in the new partnership agreements.

The publication will make essential reading for public service board Chairs and members; CEOs and senior executives and for staff in sponsoring departments.  It includes guidance on:

  • Building a board;
  • Developing a board;
  • Roles, responsibilities & relationships;
  • Operating a Board;
  • Evaluating a Board.

In one of his final events before his retirement, Comptroller and Auditor General, Kieran Donnelly CB, will introduce this new version of the guide, which updates the 2016 publication.  The C&AG will reiterate the importance of effective public service boards in the current climate of change and transformation.  He will reflect on the importance of the new partnership approach creating tangible and positive change in how boards operate and are supported, producing improved outcomes for the citizens they serve.

The event will include a panel discussion involving representatives of the key roles in ALB relationships: the Chair, the Chief Executive and the departmental sponsor.

This is an interactive event and guests will have the opportunity to put their questions and comments to our panellists.

We look foward to welcoming you in person to The Pavilion, NICSSA, Stormont Estate, Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast BT4 3TA or virtually. Guests attending in person will be offered light refreshments from 8:00am and the briefing will commence at 8:30am
