Public bodies will be reviewing all options to enable them to live within extremely challenging financial allocations. In some cases, organisations will only be able to balance their budget by reducing headcount, and may therefore need to consider undertaking a redundancy process.
Planning for and handling redundancies carefully and with great sensitivity is crucial. Effective planning will help minimise emotional distress for the individuals affected and help minimise damage to organisational performance which can happen when there is uncertainty or poor management of the situation.
Employers should establish an agreed procedure for handling redundancies, demonstrating a fair and objective approach when selecting members of the workforce for redundancy.
At this briefing, Louise Crilly, Deputy Departmental Solicitor, and Mark McAllister, Director of Employment Relations for the Labour Relations Agency will provide an overview of the issues organsations should consider.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore these issues in more detail during a question and answer session with Louise and Mark.
