Cross Border Masterclass: Navigating Complex Environments When Leading

As part of CEF’s ongoing relationship with our counterpart organisation in the Republic of Ireland - the Association of Chief Executives of State Agencies (ACESA) – we are delighted to announce details of this upcoming Masterclass.

This bespoke masterclass has been developed for members of ACESA and CEF, and will be delivered by experienced Executive Coaches Rachel Doogue, Caroline Duffy and Jen Campion

Effective leadership in public service organisations often requires navigating tension between seemingly opposing or competing forces.  These tensions can include - being a public body and advocating for change or investigation of public bodies; balancing ministers’ needs and an existing policy direction; changing budget priorities; dealing with international and national positions; regulating a sector and promotion of good practice in that sector.

  • The masterclass will explore these tensions, supporting individuals, groups and teams to identify their typical viewpoint and the potential strengths of opposing viewpoints
  • How to foster a more nuanced understanding of leadership challenges, enabling leaders to move beyond "either/or" thinking and toward a more integrated approach that leverages the strengths of both sides for more effective decision-making and action, thus bringing greater alignment.
  • Alignment doesn't require complete agreement but acknowledges the value of healthy tension between different viewpoints.
  • Specific focus on how as leader you need to be 'the coach' to your executive team, so they can assist you and the organisation to navigate the complexities.

This event offers CEF members an opportunity to broaden their professional network across the island, and is the latest in a series of joint CEF/ACESA events.

Light refreshments will be served at the venue from 10.45am, and the masterclass will be followed with lunch.

The event has been scheduled to facilitate guests travelling on the 8.00am Belfast – Dublin Enterprise train service. The venue is approx. 20 mins by taxi or a 30 minute walk from Connolly Station in Dublin.  CEF will provide further logistical details to attendees in advance of the event.
