"Common Ground" - Delivering Public Services Across the Island

"Common Ground" is a journalism and public engagement project launched by The Irish Times to explore and deepen discussion about the political, social and cultural relationships across the island of Ireland and with the UK.  It is designed to create a greater understanding of the complex issues affecting Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

We are pleased to welcome Professor Sir Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, and Dr Diarmuid O’Callaghan, President of Dundalk Institute of Technology, who will reflect on the landmark collaboration agreement that will see Dundalk Institute of Technology become a University College of Queen’s University Belfast.

They will provide a unique insight into the strategic rationale behind the partnership, the opportunities it presents for both institutions and the wider region and the practical challenges involved in developing and delivering this ambitious cross-border initiative. In particular, they will explore how the two institutions worked together to maximise the opportunities presented by the project, overcome challenges and build the partnership needed to turn an innovative concept into reality.

Our panel, which includes CEF Chair, Judith Gillespie, ACESA Chair, Tomás Ó Síocháin and Chief Executive of the Special EU Programmes Body, Gina McIntyre, will lead a wider discussion on mutually beneficial cross border projects and initiatives.

This will be a highly interactive event, with significant opportunities to engage with fellow attendees, our presenters and panellists.

The stunning surroundings of Hillsborough Castle will provide a fitting setting for what promises to be an enlightening afternoon of discussion and building connections.
