At this event we will hear from Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) CEO Gina McIntyre, who will recount the major cyber attack which hit her organisation in the summer of 2020.
The SEUPB was the victim of a malicious cyber brute force attack, which resulted in all of the corporate data being inaccessible to staff due to ransom ware encryption. Whilst the data was not lost or infiltrated, it was encrypted and inaccessible for a period of time.
Gina will describe how the organisation successfully managed the process of containing the attack, eradication of the threat and the recovery phase of all data. She will reflect on the organisation’s learning throughout this difficult time and share her experience to help other organisations be better prepared and protected.
We will also hear from Joe Dolan, Head of the NI Cyber Security Centre, which provides advice, guidance and support to help make NI cyber safe, secure and resilient. The centre works with organisations and businesses in all sectors to increase their knowledge of cyber threats and to support them to protect their technology, systems and data from cyber attacks.
Joe will provide an overview of the Centre’s work and provide an insight into the current cyber threat landscape and how public sector bodies can develop to ensure they are better secured and prepared to respond to and recover from cyber attacks.
