Amanda Stewart has served as Chief Executive of the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI) since October 2021. As Chief Executive and Accounting Officer, she provides strategic leadership for a service of approximately 430 staff working across community settings, prisons, and victim services throughout Northern Ireland.

Amanda has more than 27 years' experience working within Northern Ireland's criminal justice system, building an extensive track record of leadership across public service, community safety, justice, and policing.

Amanda joined the Police Authority for Northern Ireland in 1999 and held a number of roles spanning community affairs, partnership working, human rights and professional standards. This provided a strong foundation in public accountability, community engagement, governance, and contributing to policing reform and the development of community confidence in policing across Northern Ireland.

Prior to her appointment at PBNI, Amanda served as Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Policing Board, providing strategic leadership to the independent oversight body responsible for police accountability, governance, public confidence, and the effective delivery of policing services across Northern Ireland.

Amanda holds a BSc (Hons) in Community Youth Work from the University of Ulster and a Master’s degree in Education and Contemporary Society.

Her career has been characterised by a strong commitment to public service, community safety and improving outcomes for individuals, families, and communities across Northern Ireland.
